Includes Mode Switch
As part of your wireless home theater system, this adapter is equipped with a Mode Switch to allow you change the operation system modes of the device. You can configure the device into three available operation modes: Auto, AP, and Bridge mode. The factory default setting is the Auto mode in which the adapter senses and set the mode automatically. In Auto mode, the adapter works in AP mode when connects to the router /gateway device. When the adapter is connected to any Ethernet-based devices, the adapter operates in Bridge mode.
Change mode manually
To change the mode manually, you can change the mode switch depends on what mode you require the adapter to work in. If you connect the adapter to the router or gateway, change the mode to the AP. If you connect the adapter to the Ethernet- ready devices, change the switch to the Bridge mode.
AP mode
If your existing environment is a wired LAN which includes a router/gateway with built-in modem either DSL or Cable, you can install the WNHD3004 and configure it as the AP mode. With your Ethernet-ready devices, you can install another WNHD3004 device and configure it for Bridge.
Bridge connects to AP
And this is the note you need to know: “The unit running in Bridge mode can only connect to the WNHD3004 Access Point”. It means you cannot buy a single device and configure it as the Bridge mode to connect the Ethernet-ready devices to the wireless network unless you have another device which is configured in AP mode. It must be in a pair to work in Bridge mode. Basically the adapter is sold in a pair. What if one of the adapters fails? Can you buy a single device for replacement?

Another solution to connect multiple home Ethernet-based devices to the internet is by using the multi-port Ethernet converter such as WLI-TX4-AG300N by Buffalo. The WLI-TX4-AG300N includes 4-port Ethernet with dual-band technology delivering the speed up to 300Mbps. Should your wifi network has been upgraded to 5th generation of wifi technology, you may consider WLI-H4-D130o which is based on wireless ac standard.
